The food in the U.S. travels more than its citizens do! Unlike local food, most of the U.S. food supply travels for thousands of miles before finding its way to a home or commercial kitchen. The amount of energy required to transport the bulk of the American food supply is phenomenal, and increasingly expensive, while the entire industial food system seems to yield "soul-less" food. There is much to be said for food raised with soul, consciousness, and heart, and I would persoanlly rather eat locally raised food that had a few chemicals, but that I knew was raised with heart, than industrial organic that was faceless, nameless, and soul-less.
Buy from your region if you can Food that is imbued with the essence of your area, feels wonderful to eat, and there is something so satisfying about knowing exactly where your food comes from. The only thing better than eating locally raised food, is eating food you have raised yourself.
Farm Markets More and more local farm markets are springing up in towns throughout rural and urban America, providing greater opportunities to obtain and enjoy local food from your own region. What if you don't have a local or regional source of grass fed beef or other local food? Sometimes, good locally raised food isn’t available.
